A Nigerian lady simply known as Oluchi, has shared her ordeal with officials of the Department of Road Transport Services (Vehicle Inspection Office), that accosted her on the road.
In a series of posts on her Twitter (X) account, she revealed that they stopped the Uber she entered and asked to search her bag.
In the course of searching a bag, they found dollar notes which she was going to change and they started interrogating her to know where she got it from.
According to Oluchi, she kept staring at them and acting as if she was deaf and they told the Uber driver to leave.
She said the VIO men wanted her to count the dollars in her bag, but she casually walked away and tried to board another cab, which they also prevented from carryin her.
Feeling frustrated with their actions, Oluchi dared them to collect the bag and count the money themselves if they want to know what she will do.
In her words; “VIO stopped my Uber and ordered to search my bag. I politely opened it and they saw money (was going to change dollar notes)
They started questioning me ‘who gave you, why are you holding it carelessly…? I was looking at them like I was deaf. They told the Uber guy to end the ride and leave. I took half of the money for the ride, gave the guy and he left.
They were still talking and trying to harass me, asking that I count it in front of them when I walked away from them and tried stopping a cab, they took the man’s key and I just quietly told one if you have so much audacity, collect my bag and count it for yourself. Else the next cab I’ll stop and you try to be unfortunate, you’ll drop dead.
He was still trying to understand what I meant when I entered another one and left. Until now I’m wondering how I got such mind.”
