South African rapper, AKA feared dead after being shot

South African Hip Hop star, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes popularly known as AKA, has allegedly been shot dead in a drive-by.

Local media reports that the shooting incident occurred around 10pm on Friday night along Florida Road, Durban, South Africa.

The Durban police confirmed the rapper was a victim of a drive-by shooting which also led to one of his bodyguard’s being wounded, while another unidentified person, who is understood to be a close friend of AKA was also pronounced dead.

According to eyewitnesses, AKA was standing outside the Wish Restaurant when two cars opened fire on the award-winning rapper.

He was allegedly shot six times.

Police responded to a distress call and cordoned off the area when an IOL team arrived at the scene on Friday night.

Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Garrith Jamieson, said Florida Road has been closed off after the shooting incident.

Jamieson added that amongst the deceased was a “famous rapper”.

It was gathered that the alleged rapper, was billed to perform at a Durban night club, YUGO as part of his birthday celebrations.

AKA’s colleagues, Da LES and Black Coffee are shattered by the sad news.
