One dead as Sokoto youths engage in gun duel with bandits

The Sokoto police Command has confirmed the killing of one person as youths of a community in the state resisted bandits.

It was gathered that the bandits attempted invading their village on Saturday, November 18, but the young members of the Kwakwala community behind the main campus of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto were armed in prepared for them.

Spokesperson of the police command, Ahmad Rufai, said the assailants numbering about 10 were heavily resisted by the people and the duel led to the death of a member of the community and four others sustained injuries.

Rufai said, “Based on the report at our disposal, the suspected bandits numbering about 10 armed with cutlass and Dane guns attacked a community behind the main campus of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.

“The youths of the area resisted the attacks and in the process, the armed bandits shot one of the youths named Usman who died instantly. Four other youths of the Kwalkwala and Dundaye community also sustained various degrees of injuries in the attack.”

CorrectNG recals that bandits abducted a man believed be a police officer serving in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Friday night, September 15 and it threw Toro town into confusion. It came few hours after security agencies secured the release of 33 kidnap victims in Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi.

According to sources, the armed men fired sporadic gunshots, scaring residents before abducting a yet-to-be identified Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP.

The activities of kidnappers has affected economic activities in Toro LGA as residents are afraid of going about their businesses for fear of being kidnapped.

Member representing Toro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, AIsmail Haruna Dabo, condemned the incident and called for calm.

He described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable considering the current economic situation in the country and assured the people of his continued legislative interventions to bring an end to the menace.
