Officers attached to Jigawa State police command have arrested an 18-year-old boy, Safiyanu Lawan, for allegedly faking his own kidnap in a bid to extort money from his father.
Police spokesman in the state, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the arrest on Tuesday and disclosed that the incident happened on 19th of April2024 at about 2:30pm.
He said one Alhaji Lawan Dankoli of Kiyawa LGA reported at State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse on April 17, 2024, that his son, Safiyanu Lawan went out for shopping in preparation for school resumption but did not return back.
The police PRO also said later on the same date, at about 11:20pm, an unknown person called the father severally with a strange number and informed him that his son Safiyanu has been kidnapped.
Adam noted that on receipt of the information, a team of Police officer from State SID Dutse swung into action and visited the location where a 27 years old man, identified as Abdulrazak Salisu of Zango quarters, Kiyawa LGA, was arrested in connection with the case.
He explained that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have known where the teen boy was hiding and that they conspired together in order to collect money from the father. The Police spokesman said investigation is ongoing, while the suspects will be arraigned for prosecution.
