Man slumps, dies on busy road in Port Harcourt

An yet-to-be identified man allegedly passed on after he slumped by the roadside in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

He was said to have suddenly fallen to the floor while heading to an unknown destination with a black bag.

The incident happened in the afternoon on Tuesday, 11th of April 2023, along Rumuigbo Junction in Obio-Akpor local government.

Eyewitnesses said that when the man, who is in his 60s fell to the ground, he struggled for a while to stand up but couldn’t.

It was gathered the people who surrounded the deceased were only snapping pictures instead of making attempts to revive him or take him to hospital.

“This afternoon, the man was walking by the roadside. Later he fell down. Some people gathered around him. He was struggling to stand up but couldn’t. He later died.

“Nobody knew him. People were afraid to touch him because if police come now they may arrest you for questioning. So nobody wanted problem. The man died there,” an eyewitness, Grace explained.

The state police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, adding that the command has ordered investigation into the death.

In related news, popular Ibadan-based Radio presenter known as Baba Bintin, reportedly slumped and died while on his way to the office.

The staff of Fresh FM in Oyo state, was said to have been trekking to work on Saturday morning when he suddenly collapsed.

Vanguard reports that the sad death of Baba Bintin was announced during a radio programme by ace radio twins, Komolafe Olaiya and Olalomi Amole.

The radio presenters had earlier expressed concern on the programme regarding the unusual lateness of the elder on air personality.

However, before concluding the programme, Komolafe and Olalomi announced that Baba Bintin died while trekking from Amuloko to Fresh FM at Challenge with the hope of getting POS terminal to get cash.

An eyewitness who spoke with the station, said they found him passed out on the road and rushed him to the University College Hospital l, UCH, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.
