Kano Hisbah arrests two men for ‘kissing’ in viral video

The Kano State Hisbah Board reveals that it has arrested two people for allegedly engaging in homosexual activity, which is a sin.

Hisbah Commandant, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, who made this known on Saturday, said the suspects were trying to arrange same-sex marriage.

He referenced a viral video which showed the two young men identified as Khalifa and Abubakar and said they were kissing each other during an event, which is suspected to be their engagement party.

The suspects, however, denied the allegation that the event was a wedding ceremony, and said it was just a birthday party.

Khalifa explained that he organised the party for his birthday and his friend Abubakar used his mouth to gave him a piece cake in his own mouth, stressing that it was not a kiss.

Daurawa said the two suspects are in their custody and an investigation is ongoing.

The Hisbah command in Kano gave its verdict in the matter of a woman, Malama Khadija Rano, who allegedly dissolved her marriage to marry her daughter’s suitor.

The Islamic body said that based on investigation, the marriage had fulfilled all the necessary criteria in accordance with the principles of Islam.

Deputy Commander in charge of operations, and chairman of the investigation committee, Hussain Ahmed, said Khadija was no longer with her husband and observed the three months waiting period (iddah) after divorce.

The statement partly read;“Presenting the report, chairman of the committee who doubles as Deputy Commander in charge of operations of the Board, Malam Hussain Ahmed, said the committee had found out that the marriage was legal and had fulfilled all the necessary criteria.

“The marriage is legal according to Islam, that was the reason Hisbah Commander in Rano Local Government Area supported and took part in the wedding rites”.

CorrectNG reported earlier that Malama Khadija tied the knot with her daughter’s boyfriend in Rano Local Government Area of the state after her daughter, Aisha, rejected his marriage proposal.

Her relatives however, accused the Hisbah Commandant of Rano LGA of marrying off their daughter without their consent and that they didn’t even know where she was.

They visited a radio station to raise an alarm when they learnt that Khadija had married a younger man without informing her family.

But in reaction, Khadija who later visited the station, said she was living happily with her new husband. According to the woman, Muslim clerics gave her assurance that her marriage was not prohibited in Islam.

When Malama Khadija’s child turned down the boyfriend that asked for her hand in marriage, she decided to ensure she and her daughter don’t lose him.
