Nigeria’s immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari has explained his inability to be present at the All Progressives Congress, (APC) caucus and the National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.
President Bola Tinubu had invited Buhari to the meeting, but in a statement by his media adviser, Garba Shehu on Twitter, he conveyed his apologies, saying he won’t attend.
The ex-president said he was unable to attend due to commitments earlier made. He also used the opportunity to express his support and commitment to the APC, wishing it a good meeting as the leaders take decisions on issues of importance to the party and Nigeria at large.
Shehu wrote;
“Former President Muhammadu Buhari has explained his inability to be present at the caucus meeting and the National Executive Committee, NEC, meetings of the All Progressives Congress, APC to which he has been invited and has conveyed his apologies, indicating that he is unable to attend due to commitments earlier made.
Muhammadu Buhari used the opportunity to express his support and commitment to the party, at the same time wishing it a good meeting as the leaders take decisions on issues of importance to the party and the nation.”

Buhari recently denied leaving his home in Daura, Katsina state and going on exile. His spokesman, Garba Shehu said Buhari, described reports of him fleeing the country as false.
This came weeks after he said he travelled to London, United Kingdom to rest because visitors and well-wishers continued to disturb him in his Daura home.
According to Shehu, Buhari had hoped to find some peace and quiet in order “to have his needed rest” in his hometown but was hindered by individuals who sought to pay him goodwill visits.
The media aide also said that the former president’s overseas travel was an added advantage to enable President Bola Tinubu’s government to have the right atmosphere to work on their campaign promises.
The statement read in part; “He chose to go home in Daura hoping to find the type of quiet he wished for himself, but realising that this was not the case, visitors trooping in morning, day and night, he moved out to a more distant place.
“It remains his wish that he be allowed to have his needed rest, and for the Tinubu administration to have the right atmosphere to work on the realisation of the promises they made.”
But in another statement, Shehu noted that there was no veracity in the report because Buhari has returned to Katsina State.
He said; “Every platform has tools to verify any information and we don’t expect anything less. For misleading the otherwise credible newspaper to falsely report on their front page that former President Muhammadu Buhari has “fled” and on “exile” when he is currently at home with family in Daura, Katsina State, BusinessDay newspaper should sack their reporter who didn’t do the job of checking his facts.
“BusinessDay should think 10 times before running any information from the particular reporter and verify it before believing him. Every platform has tools to verify any information and we don’t expect anything less from BusinessDay.
“If they had browsed through different sources, they will have seen reports of the former President having come back home and enjoying the company of his family. A single fake news in a newspaper has the capability to destroy a reputation built on years of hard work.”
