Jose Peseiro can’t take Nigeria to World Cup, says Timi Dakolo

Music star, Timi Dakolo has reacted to Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Lesotho in the World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Thursday.

He told the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro cannot take the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Second-half goals from Motlomelo Mkhwanazi and Semi Ajayi ensured both teams shared a point each.

Reacting via his Twitter (X) account, Dakolo also branded the Super Eagles’ display as ‘very embarrassing.’

“Dear @thenff, this coach can’t be the best coach available for a country like Nigeria. This is very embarrassing. This man can’t take the Super Eagles to the World Cup. It is actually painful to watch,” he tweeted.

Nigeria will face Zimbabwe in their next World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

Jose Peseiro has revealed that Super Eagles players pushed him to accept a reduction in salary from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

It was reported in August that NFF handed the Super Eagles coach a three-day ultimatum to accept a pay cut and renew his contract.

The Portuguese coach agreed to a pay cut this summer so that he could remain in charge of the Nigerian national football team. The 63-year-old told Skysports that his players begged him to stay so they can win the tournament.

Peseiro said; “The players pushed me to stay because they believe we can win (the AFCON) We can win it. The players know it. They come with the same energy, the same belief, to fight for the Super Eagles.”

He will lead the Super Eagles to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire in January, 2023 and hopes to take Nigeria to the world cup.
