Young man unhappy after paying N5m bride price for fiancée in Imo (Video)

A Nigerian man simply known as Jago, has expressed sadness at the amount he was required to pay as bride price for his fiancée who is from Imo state.

He visited his lover’s hometown and paid N5million as part of the introductory rites but he did not feel comfortable parting with that amount.

In a video he shared on his TikTok account, the young man could not hide his pain during the introductory ceremony.

Jago posted it with a lamentation soundtrack while noting that N5 million bride price is not a small thing.

Social media users took to his comment section to question his decision to go for someone from Imo state despite all the stories .

Meanwhile, an Abuja man, Yahaya Saleh refused to collect the bride price that his wife, Rabi was supposed to return to him following the dissolution of their marriage.

A Grade 1 Area Court in Lugbe directed the woman to refund the bride price her husband paid for her hand in marriage six years ago.

The couple’s marriage was dissolved on Friday, March 31st 2023 after the wife filed a divorce petition.

Saleh of Jedo Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, however, told the court that he would not collect back the bride price because he had children with his estranged wife.

He said that the marriage was consummated under Islamic Law and was blessed with two children, the first being four years old and the second, two years old.

Rabbi had in her petition, filed before the court, alleged that her husband had not been taking care of her and their two children throughout their 6-year old marriage.

She said; “My husband does not care about our health. Whenever the children or me are sick, he doesn’t show care.

“I have been the one feeding the family, caring for their health and all other needs. I want the court to dissolve the marriage. I have no love for my husband again”.

The Judge, Saleh Ramat, granted the wife’s request on the grounds of Saleh’s lack of care for Rabi, adding that the marriage had broken down irretrievably.
