A Nigerian woman identified as Ramat Ibrahim, has divorced her estranged husband, Ibrahim Ayinla, on the grounds of lack of love.
An Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara state on Wednesday, January 24 dissolved the marriage between the couple which has lasted for a total of 25 years.
The petitioner informed the court that she was scared of going to the respondent’s house, alleging that he was fetish and partial towards her co-wife, hence her insistence on divorce.
Ramat, however, said she did not have a job and no visible means of livelihood to cater to the children. She, therefore, requested that the children remain with the respondent for now.
Ayinla told the court that he agreed with the petitioner’s decision on divorce and did not want to ever see the wife in his house again, to avoid further allegations.
The Presiding Judge, Hammad Ajumonbi said the statement by the petitioner, Ramat, indicated that all efforts to reconcile with her husband had failed.
Delivering judgment, Ajumonbi, therefore, dissolved the marriage, which was conducted in the Islamic religion. He said the first and second children were adults and as such, had the right to choose who they wanted to live with.
The judge directed the respondent to take full responsibility for the children’s feeding, school fees, and medical expenses, to the best of his ability. He also ordered that the petitioner be allowed to pack all her belongings.
