Wizkid vs Davido: Drag government for causing hardship instead of being distracted – Yemi Alade tells Nigerians

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Yemi Alade has called on her compatriots to have their priorities right and focus on government amid the worsening economic hardship.

She expressed disappointment that they were more interested in a fight between artistes instead of the hike in electricity tariff, fuel price increase, and the declining value of naira.

The songstress said people are being wicked to each other with daily increase in price of goods. She also blasted some Nigerians who are picking sides in the social media war between celebrities

The ‘Johnny’ crooner wrote on Twitter: “Electricity tariffs and fuel are at a 400% increase. Naira to $ is dancing alanta. The weather is unbearably hot. People are busy being wicked to each other with daily increases in prices.

Salaries have not been increased. Afrobeat artists are making the mess, and you’re picking sides instead of facing our government.”

Meanwhile, this came after Yemi Alade has criticised her colleagues over their decision to downplay Afrobeats and distance themselves from the genre.

She addressed the recent acts of denouncing Afrobeats by saying that while it is not wrong for artistes to deny being under the Afrobeats, they cannot deny that it contributed to every Nigerian artiste’s development.

Taking to her Twitter (X) handle, Yemi Alade emphasised that even if the musicians feel it doesn’t define their art, it is hypocrisy for them to downplay the genre.

The ‘Johnny’ crooner wrote: “I don’t see anything wrong in informing your listeners of the genre of music an artist makes especially when you feel it doesn’t define your art.

“Just Announce your Genre in peace. Downplaying the role Afrobeats has played in every artist’s development is hypocrisy.”
