Wizkid not winning Grammy for ‘Essence’ was a very big robbery – Groovy

Big Brother Naija ex-contestant, Groovy has openly accused Grammy organisers of cheating Nigerian music star, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid, out of an award in 2022.

Wizkid bagged two nominations at the 64th Grammys, courtesy of his ‘Made in Lagos’ album and the global hit song ‘Eseence’ with Tems.

‘Made in Lagos’ was nominated in the category of Global Music album. Machala was also nominated for Best Global music performance for ‘Essence’, but unfortunately, he did not win any.

Juxtaposing what happened to Davido, Burna Boy, who both lost at the 66th edition of the prestigious show, Groovy opined that Essence not winning a Grammy award was one of the biggest robberies to ever occur in the history of the award show.

Taking to Twitter, he stated this in response to Asiwaju Lerry who called out those that were angry about people attacking Davido for losing out, despite being nominated in three categories.

He pointed out that when Big Wiz lost in 2022, people made jest of him and there was no hate or talk of such, however, the reaction is different for OBO’s matter.

“Wizkid lost his Grammy nominations with Made in Lagos and Essence, everyone cooked him for an entire week. No be hate, but the banter must go round,” Lerry tweeted.

Groovy quoted his post and wrote; “Wiz not winning a Grammy for Essence is one of the biggest robberies in that award’s entire history.”
