Wizkid is trying to kill Afrobeats like he killed rap – Terry Tha Rapman

Nigerian Hip Hop veteran, Terry Tha Rapman has jokingly accused superstar singer, Wizkid of trying to kill Afrobeats the way he did rap.

CorrectNG reports that over the weekend, Wizkid stirred controversy when he dissociated himself from Afrobeats and noted that he should not be categorised under the genre.

It may also be recalled that during an interview with 10 magazine, Wizkid said rap is dead while arguing in favour of Afrobeats dominating the Hip Hop genre.

According to the Starboy Entertainment founder, the Hip Hop artistes mostly rap on the same beats, and they have similar styles.

Wizkid also took to social media and said Nigerian rappers are non-rappers who lack development and he went on to list the South Africa’s Nasty C and Ghana’s Sarkodie as the ‘real rappers’ in Africa.

Subsequently, Wizkid received backlash mostly from Nigerian rap artistes who either responded to him online or released diss raps.

Reacting through his Twitter account, Terry Tha Rapman referenced both incidences and pointed out how ‘Wiz killed rap’ and is about to do same to Afrobeats.

The urged Highlife artistes to beware of the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner, adding that they might be the Starboy’s next target.

Terry Tha Rapman wrote; “First rap, now Afrobeats. How many genres Wizkid wan kill? Highlife, run o!”

Nigerian rapper, Vector earlier said Wizkid should not be only one getting heat because he said rap is dead and the genre is underappreciated.

He said a good rapper is not judged by how much he makes or whether he is successful, rather, it is because he has the lyrical skills to tell a story.

Vector, however said that it is disrespectful to talk down on another person’s life or career if you do not fully comprehend what it’s all about or if one cannot relate.

According to him, someone who is a pop star would see the rap game in Nigeria as being comatose and it’s all about perspective.

He also said everybody is guilty of not supporting rap enough and he found it weird that people were expecting him and other rappers to diss Wizkid even when they they do not appreciate Hip Hop as much as Afrobeats.
