Why Wizkid’s comment about rap was wrong – Rapper Zoro

Indigenous Nigerian rapper, Owoh Chimaobi Chrismathner, alias Zoro Swagbag, has said that contrary to Afrobeats star, Wizkid’s comment, “rap is not dead.”

It may be recalled that during an interview with 10 magazine, Wizkid had asserted that rap is dead while arguing in favour of Afrobeats dominating the industry.

According to the Starboy Entertainment founder, the Hip Hop artistes mostly rap on the same beats, and they have similar styles.

Subsequently, he received backlash mostly from Nigerian rap artistes who either responded to him online or released diss raps.

Speaking on the matter in a recent interview with Tacha, on Cool FM Nigeria, Zoro noted that the way Wiz made his point was wrong even though he liked the message Machala was trying to pass.

He also said that the ‘Joro’ crooner’s disclaimer that he wasn’t referring to Nigerian rappers, rappers did not change anything beause rappers are the same everywhere.

Tacha asked: “What’s your opinion on what Wizkid said about rap being dead? Do you personally think that rap is dead?”

Zoro responded: “I do not think so. But I kind of like the idea of what he was trying to say. The way he said it was wrong.

“He said we quoted him out of context that he wasn’t talking about Nigerian rappers. But I mean, if you’re talking about rappers, rappers are the same everywhere.

“Of course, rap is not dead. It’s just that we took too long to be able to start making rap as enjoyable as we are making it right now. As the likes of Odumodublvck is doing and Falz has already been doing.”
