Why Peter Obi’s presidency could end in disaster – Ex-Senate President, Saraki

Former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki has expressed fear that if Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate is elected in the forthcoming election, his administration will be characterized by disaster.

He made the comment on Monday while granting an interview on Arise TV as he noted that the Labour Party has no candidates to form the majority in the National Assembly.

The former Kwara state governor stated that not having enough representatives in parliament may not go well if LP wins the presidential poll.

Saraki stressed that if Obi is emerges president, without having the majority in the National Assembly, the relationship between the executive and legislative arm of government may affect good governance.

He said; “Don’t forget that in Nigeria, we run a presidential system of government. When you go to the ballot box on the day of elections, you are voting for a party.

“A party where from day 1, you don’t have candidates for the parliamentary seats, already there is a recipe for disaster because you know that the executive and the legislature are not going to have the majority”.

Meanwhile, Peter Obi has said that unlike some of his political opponents, he will not steal public funds, rather he would be committed to the development of the country.

He stated this on Saturday, while pledging that if elected the president of Nigeria he will be prudent in the management of public funds.

This was in response to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, who described Obi as a stingy man that could not be trusted with the future of the nation.

Obi, speaking during his presidential campaign rally in Akure, the Ondo State said the country would be safer in the hands of a stingy man like him.

He said “Yes they said l am stingy, but we are not out to steal the nation’s wealth. All we want to do is to use the nation’s money for our people and development of this country. They said that I’m stingy; we want stingy people now, so that we can keep the money. We want to make sure we use your money to transform the country.

“This election that is coming now, don’t vote for anybody because of tribe but vote for someone that will move the country forward. We don’t want anybody to say that it is my turn; we want to change Nigeria for better. Our children will be in school, we don’t want people to run out of Nigeria again. We want to structure Nigeria for development. So, go and pick your PVCs and vote for Labour Party and make sure that they count the vote.”
