Why I ran away from Twitter – Mayorkun

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel better known as Mayorkun has opened up on why he abandoned microblogging site, Twitter.

The ‘Certified Loner’ crooner who is more active on other social media platforms, had a question and answer session with fans on Snapchat.

He revealed that the reason fans no longer see him drop tweets as often as before is because he does not love toxicity which is what the social networking service is known for.

Mayorkun stated this in response to a curious fan who questioned him about why he was no longer active on Twitter.

“I don’t thrive on toxicity… I guess,” the singer wrote.

After a recent check on his Twitter handle @Mayorkun, it was discovered that the last tweet he dropped was on 5th of June 2023.

Similarly, Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ayo Balogun also known as Wizkid, has revealed that he’s not been active on microblogging platform, Twitter for a long time.

He made this known during an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra ahead of hi performance on The Other Stage in Glastonbury.

When asked if fans were to request certain songs from him through Twitter or Instagram, if he would grant their wish and sing them at his concerts, Wizkid answered affirmatively and noted that he had listened to fans’ request several times.

The Joro crooner however said that he has not been on Twitter in years and if the songs were requested through Instagram, they are most likely to be seen by him and given consideration.

“I haven’t been on Twitter in like, I don’t know how many years, so I don’t know if I will see it.. Maybe Instagram,” Big Wiz said.

Interestingly, the last post on his Twitter page was dropped on Friday, June 23, 2023.
