Why I don’t work with other artistes’ – Singer, Ruger

Nigerian singer, Michael Adebayo, popularly known as Ruger, has explained why he is yet to feature other artistes or jump on a song with any of his colleagues.

In an interview with Zambian presenter, Edna on ZMB talks, the music act said that he does not see anything wrong with features but he is just waiting for the right person and time.

He, however, said that the reason he does not do features is because he wants to be known for his own sound and he wants to have hit songs which are solely as a result of his singular effort.

Ruger said he does not want to be in a situation where he releases a hit song with a top artiste and people link his success to that artiste, thereby underappreciating his craft.

According to him, working solo give him the bragging right to say that he became a star without having to feature or be featured by the leading industry musicians.

Speaking on how he prepared for fame, the ‘Bounce’ crooner said that one does not prepare to be a star as it is inbuilt. He further noted that he did not make any preparations for stardom, rather he was just preparing for music.

Meanwhile, he recently clashed with Afrobeats singer, Daniel Benson better known as BNXN, on Twitter.

It was a continuation of a beef that started in July 2022 when Ruger while replying a fan said he is better than the ‘Lenu’ crooner.

“I love Buju, he’s good but he’s not better than me. Everything I’ve done since the beginning was only RUGER. All my hits are JUST RUGER. I’m always proud going on stage around the world with my own hits and everyone is singing along. You see the difference?” he wrote.

The recent clash on Twitter started after BNXN celebrated his new project, ‘Bad Since ’97, which currently tops the Apple Music’s Nigerian album chart, by sending shots at Ruger.

He shared an image of the album’s position on the charts and referenced Ruger’s lyrics from his song, Girlfriend, in a bid to shade him.

BNXN tweeted, “What if I, what if I what if I, COOOKKKK #BadSince97”

Responding to the tweet, Rudger mocked him by saying that he should first get a hit song without featuring any artiste before he can talk to him.

He also mocked singer over his body size in a post on his Twitter page.

Ruger tweeted; “Get a solo hit then talk to me fatty bum bum.”

But it triggered the former Burna Boy protege who then went on a rant about how he is the better than the Jonzing Records artiste which is why he body shamed him.
