You would not agree less when I say that the society is full of demands. The demands of looking for a job, going to work, taking care of family, meeting up our daily goals and targets etc. Our response to these demands of life is what is called STRESS. Merriam – Webster dictionary defined Stress as a state of mental tension and worry caused by problems in your life, work etc. Stress most times affect us negatively.
What causes stress?
The major causes of stress could be either physical or emotional and they include:
- Financial issues
- Relationships issues with friends and families
- Not being flexible in doing things
Effects of chronic stress.
Stress do help us to get things done but when it is taken to the extreme can lead to one or more of the following health issues: Weight problems, Sleeping disorders, pains, depression, heart diseases, memory and thinking problems and menstrual pains just to mention a few.
Symptoms of chronic stress
- Worrying too much
- Getting angry too easily
- Feeling sick
- Eating much or little food
- Use of drugs, alcohol, cigarette to relax(very common)
- Nails bitting
- Infections and cold occurring frequently.
Simple ways to cope with stress
Why not take out time to ease yourself of the stress of life. Get involved in activities that can increase your level of Joy and calmness. You can engage in activities like swimming,cycling, meditation and yoga.
2.Eat to Live
There is an adage that says that we are what we eat. Maintain an healthy nutritious diet, eating too much processed foods can increase the symptoms of stress. Include intake of fruits and vegetables, reduce intake of caffeine and alcohol.
3.Get plenty of rest
Take a nap When you can. Remember that you cannot get everything done at once. Effectiveness and efficiency deals with a having sound mind.
4 Exercise regularly
Regular exercises will help to increase your tolerance to chronic stress.Exercise and other physical activity produce endorphins—chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers and also improve the ability to sleep, which in turn reduces stress. You do not need to engage in one hour exercise to ease yourself of stress. A study has shown that five minutes aerobic exercise can reduce anxiety.
Stress is part of life, when you are stressed to chronic level see your doctor for advice. Avoiding people or staying on your own is not the best way to cope with stress. Life na jeje o, take things easy… Work in bits!
