We strongly oppose oppression and brutality – Google throws weight behind #EndSARS campaign

Global search engine, Google has thrown its weight behind the protest against police brutality, harassment and extra-judicial killing in Nigeria, especially by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

Protests have been taking place over the past one week as Nigerians have been calling for an end to SARS. Google joining the protests, urged Nigerian government to come up with speedy resolution to the people’s agitation.

The tech giant in a recent tweet via its official handle, and making use of the #EndSARS hashtag, stated that an impartial police force is a critical element of a stable society.

Google tweeted;

“We strongly oppose oppression, brutality & intimidation. We believe a fair and impartial police force is a critical element of a stable society, & that abuse of power infringes on people’s democratic & human rights. We urge a speedy resolution to the current situation. #EndsSARS.”

This is coming barely a day after Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey joined the call for an end to police brutality.
