Warri concert: Davido challenges Pinnick’s N2.3billion contract breach suit

Nigerian superstar singer, David Adeleke alias Davido, has challenged the N2.3 billion breach of contract suit filed against him by a former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick.

The Chairman of Brownhill Investments Company Limited, on October 31, filed a lawsuit alleging that Davido failed to appear at the concert on October 6 after receiving a payment of $94,500.

However, during the court hearing, Davido’s legal team led by Norrison Quakers (SAN), challenged the jurisdiction of the Delta State High Court in Effurun to entertain the matter.

Amaju Pinnick sue Davido

The singer said the issue should be treated as a debt recovery case, and insisted that Pinnick should have issued a demand letter before legal action.

Furthermore, Davido denied that music executive, Sosoberokon, who signed the contract on his behalf, was his authorised agent.

The DMW boss legal counsel disputed Pinnick’s claim that the payment was for a performance, stating that it was for promotional services.

The court, however, adjourned to 14th December 2023 to rule on the preliminary objections filed in both cases.

CorrectNG recalls that Amaju Pinnick had said OBO refused to show up at the 19th edition of the Warri Again fest in Delta State, despite being paid an excess of $94,600 (about N72 million).

The sports administrator said the organisers also booked a private jet for $18,000 to bring the the singer to perform at the event in Warri, Delta State.

Speaking in Pidgin, he said; “We paid Davido $94,600 on the 6th of April. We paid $18,000 for his plane. If im say him be big boy, we go tell am say we Big pass am.

“I’m not joking. So, why he was playing his games back and forth, we decided to hunt to find another artiste, Shallipopi.

“You see when people say dem big, I just dey laugh. The biggest artiste in Nigeria today, no be Burna Boy? Burna Boy is half Itsekiri. Burna Boy’s paternal grandmother is Itsekiri. So, he big pass am.

“Anybody fit big pass RMD for acting industry? Anybody fit big pass Ali Baba for comedy? Warri na back to back we get dem. Nobody fit big pass Warri.”
