Video: The purpose of government is to care for the poor – Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has said the primary purpose of any govenment is to take care of the poor.

He stated this during an interview with NTA while talking about his plans to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty.

Obi reiterated his position that the moment he commences a system which promotes production there will be more revenue to cater to the needs of the less privileged.

The former Anambra state governor, however, said that he is dealing with a criminal structure and he is aware that it will not be easy for him to win but with the help of Nigerian youths it can be done.

CorrectNG reported earlier that he said incessant strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will end with his administration.

He stated this in Jalingo, Taraba while highlighting that so far ASUU has embarked on no fewer than 50 months industrial action since 1999.

Obi said he will ensure that paralysis of academic activities would be a thing of the past if given the mandate to lead Nigeria.

According to the former governor of Anambra, his government would dialogue with ASUU leadership to ensure that universities stay open during academic years.

The LP candidate said; “The 50 months ASUU strike in Nigeria is a setback for both the development of Nigeria and its educational system.

“What Datti and I want to do for Nigeria is to ensure that we move from consumption to production and there would be no more ASUU strike.”

He also vowed to make Taraba an economic hub and tourist attraction through the numerous untapped natural resources.

“The untapped mineral resources here and the Mambilla hydro is enough to transform the economy of the country and create job opportunities for Nigerian youths”, he said.
