‘They are scapegoating her’ – Denola Grey reacts as court jails Bobrisky

Nigerian media personality and actor, Denola Grey has claimed that the six months jail-term slammed on famous crossdresser Bobrisky is unfair.

He opined that the court’s decision to sentence Bobrisky to prison without the option of fine has nothing to do with the naira abuse he was arraigned for.

A Federal High Court in Lagos state, on Friday, April 12, convicted and sentenced Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, to prison.

Reacting to the development via Twitter, Grey said there is more to the sentence than meets the eye and the transvestite was being used as a “scapegoat.”

He wrote: “We all know this isn’t about spraying [Naira]. They are scapegoating her and using this BS as a reason. I hate bullies. Unfortunately, this country is full of them.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had arraigned Idris “Bobrisky” Okuneye on four counts of naira abuse and money laundering.

The court, earlier dismissed the money laundering charges but convicted Bobrisky for Naira Abuse after he confessed to the crime.

Recall that last week Friday, the court had fixed April 12 as the date for sentencing after Bobrisky pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of tampering with N490,000 (Four Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira).

Justice Awogboro held that the judgement will serve as a deterrence to others who are fond of abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency.

The Judge, however, ordered that the jail term commences on March 24, 2024, the day of Bobrisky’s arrest by the anti-graft agency.
