Tems finally receives Grammy Award plaque

Nigerian musician, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has received her Grammy award plaque.

Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi made this known in a post on his Instagram strories on Friday, 2nd of June, 2023.

She earned the award for her contribution on Drake on Future’s ‘Wait for You’ which won the Best Rap Melodic Performance category.

Muyiwa shared a photo of someone showing off the trophy.

It is her first ever Grammy win, but the song was also nominated for the Best Rap Song award.

Tems now joins Sade Adu, as the female Nigerian artistes to take home the Grammy. Sade won a Grammy award in 1986 for the Best New Artist.

Meanwhile, Tems spoke on her Grammy win during an an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

She stated how she would always listen to several prominent artistes who she now works with.

The Try Me crooner also spoke of how her ‘Higher’ song was chosen by Future and his team for a remake.

She said; “It is incredible, I get to work with people that five years ago were on my playlist. I was jamming to them and now I am working with them, it is such a pleasure and I feel like this is just the beginning.

“The song, with U was taken from my record, Higher, they reached out to me and they told me they would use it as a sample and I felt it was amazing. I thought the song was interesting and amazing the way it got together.”
