Super Eagles plans to beat South Africa in 90 minutes – Peseiro

Head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has said that his team aims to beat South Africa when both countries clash in the semi-final on Wednesday.

According to him, they want to clinch a win either in 90 minutes, 120 minutes or penalties at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

Peseiro made the comment on Monday while insisting that he is not thinking about South Africa’s penalty-saving specialist Ronwen Williams ahead of the clash.

Williams etched his name into the history books after saving four penalties in a single AFCON shootout as Bafana Bafana defeated Cape Verde in the quarter final.

When Hot Sports asked if he is thinking about the Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper, Peseiro said; “No. I think about the opponent. We observe the opponent, we want to beat them in the 90 minutes, 120 minutes or penalties.

“We have to prepare the team well to be focused and show a good mentality. Our players deserve to reach the final but we need to beat South Africa in a hard match.”

Meanwhile, CorrectNG recalls that the Nigeria national team coach suggested how his Super Eagles can get to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Peseiro outlined two things Super Eagles players need to do to ensure that they defeat whichever country they face in the semi-finals of the tournament in Ivory Coast.

He stated via Twitter (X) on Saturday night that the team must keep their feet on the ground and stay focused to sail through to the AFCON final.

“Our players were once again extraordinary. Many congratulations. We are in the semi-finals. Keep our feet on the ground; stay focused to conquer our place in the final,” the Portuguese tweeted.

Nigeria qualified for the semi-final on Friday after beating Angola. Peseiro’s men will face the South Africa in the last four.
