Spyro defends self for performing secular song in church

Nigerian singer, Oludipe David, popularly known as Spyro, has addressed the outrage that was generated by his performance at a church event.

CorrectNG recalls that the singer performed his hit song ‘Only Fine Girl’ during a drama performance at the Harvesters International Gospel Center’s Christmas carol service on Sunday.

Spyro perform in church

Spyro and the lead preacher at Harvesters church, Pastor Bolaji Idowu came under heavy criticism online as many were not pleased by the development.

In a video circulating on social media, the singer could be seen performing the song on stage as the drama troupe carried out their play.

Although the church also invited celebrities such as Daniel Effiong, Bisola Ayeola, Dorathy Bachor and Sharon Ooja for the event, it was Spyro that got more of the backlash.

Reacting, the ‘Who’s Your Guy’ crooner noted that he is a human like everyone and a devoted Christian; therefore, should be allowed to participate in church activities.

The fast-rising singer added he has been attending Harvesters church for over seven years and served in two departments.

Spyro said, “Just saw myself and pastor B has been getting dragged because I did a drama ministration I’m church 🤷🏽‍♂️

“Let me make something’s very clear!! I’ve been a member of Harvesters for well over 7 years, and I serve in two departments.

“The clip making rounds on social media is off a drama I took part of at our annual carol service called Fantasia. The Carol was completely FREE for all. The tickets were free! 👇🏼

“Because I am a celebrity doesn’t make me human?? I can serve God like the rest of you naw l. So pls understand that I am Human, a Christian and I serve in a real church!!!”
