The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has earmarked a whopping N1.480 billion in the 2023 budget for refreshment and meals, settlement of honorarium, sitting allowances, publicity, welfare packages and other expenditures.
According to Leadership, the said sum is part of the N193,418,082,888 billion allocated to the Sports Ministry from the N21.83 trillion appropriation act passed by the National Assembly and recently signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In documents the publication sourced from the Budget Office of the Federation, the budget breakdown showed that about N26,156,222 million was specifically designated to be spent on refreshment/meals, while N140,668,563 million was allocated for welfare packages.
It also showed that the total allocation for the ministry, excluding the four agencies under its control, stood at N8.906 billion.
The document further explained that the total capital is N4.664billion, while the total personnel cost stood at N2.008 billion and total overhead fixed at N2.232 billion, amounting to the N8.906 billion total allocation for the ministry.
Leadership further reports that the sports ministry earmarked N2.334 million for postage and courier services, N4.704 million for medical, N10.209 million for subscription to professional bodies, 20.579 million for honorarium and sitting allowances, N71.698 million for monitoring activities and follow up, N1.126 billion for sporting activities and other miscellaneous expenses.
The documents also revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which is one of the key agencies under the ministry, was allocated N1.282 billions with the total personnel cost of N153,022,511905, overhead cost N153,022,511 and total capital cost standing at N306,183,366.
