Speaking Yoruba is draining, hurts my nerves – Actress Adunni Ade [Video]

Famous Nollywood actress and content creator, Adunni Ade has said that she finds speaking Yoruba language draining.

The mother of two who sat down for a chat in a recent episode of the Channels Television programme, Morning Brief, added that it sometimes hurts her nerves.

Adunni, born to a German-American mother and a Nigerian father of Yoruba descent, said she prefers English which is Nigeria’s lingua franca.

She said; “Speaking Yoruba is draining, sometimes it hurts my nerves. The first language that we know in Nigeria is English. Let’s put all the other languages aside. Some are even rude with it and ask me to speak Yoruba.

I really don’t see how speaking Yoruba will make them [fans] feel better. Maybe they just want to hear me speak Yoruba. A lot of times people tell me ‘You don’t really look like what you sound like’.”

Adunni, however, appreciated that her father for bringing her to Nigeria to learn the culture, language, and everything about the country.

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ahmed Ololade, also known as Asake has explained why Yoruba language is an integral part of his music.

He said he loves singing in Yoruba because it is very important to him and there are lots of people who understand the language.

Asake who was speaking in an interview on NewsLive Prime, said he understands music to be a feeling and at times one does not need to understand it to like its usage on a sng.

“Yoruba is so important to me. To me the away I understand music is that it is a feeling”, the music star said.
