South Africa has become the latest African country to detect the coronavirus. The country’s its first case  is  a 38-year-old man who visited Italy with his wife.

This brings to 27 the number of coronavirus cases reported in Africa. Algeria is worst-affected, with 17 cases, followed by Senegal with four.

Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Senegal and now South Africa are the affected countries. Nigeria reported it’s index case last Friday, an Italian man who flew into the country from Milan.

He has been kept in isolation since he developed symptoms while everybody he came in contact with is being identified.

In South Africa, a tracer team has been sent to the eastern province of KwaZulu-Natal to identify people who might have been in contact with the man and the doctor, authorities say.
