Reno Omokri, popular social media activist and ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has sparked a debate on social media by declaring that six Nigerians become extremely poor per minute.
The popular political critic took to Twitter to make this statement while lamenting about the continued growth of Nigeria’s population and decline of the educational sector.
Tweeting statistical data, he also stated that a lot of Nigerians are entering into extreme poverty due to the failure of the current administration to focus on education.
Reno further attested that development of the educational sector in India has been the underlying factor for the development of the Asian nation.
Since 2015, Nigeria’s population has increased by 9%. Yet, our 2020 education budget of ₦48 B is just 9% of the ₦492 B we budgeted for education in 2015. It’s the reason 44 people escape extreme poverty in India per minute, while 6 enter it in Nigeria each minute #TableShaker
