Governors in the South East have been urged to facilitate the protection of all law-abiding members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), South East zone and their cattle, insisting that the association’s interest in the region is purely economic.
Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, Chairman of MACBAN in the South East, addressing the press after a meeting of the joint executive council of the group in Enugu on Monday, said that herders in the region would be cautious while plying in their trade.
He said the group would not delay in reporting any of its members found wanting or alleged to be involved in criminal activities within the zone.
Siddiki said it has become necessary to correct the wrong impression that the interest of cattle rearers in the region were beyond economic pursuits, noting that such an assumption or the impression had made their members quite uncomfortable in the zone.
The MACBAN chairman also stated that unhealthy relationships have been generated in most parts of the region, arising from the suspicion that the herdsmen had territorial ambitions.
