Portable denies being arrested, makes clarification

Controversial artiste, Habeeb Okikiola better known by his stage name, Portable has dismissed reports that he was arrested by the police in Ogun state.

In a statement issued through, his Instagram page on Saturday, April 2nd, Portable said that contrary to widespread reports, he only honoured an invitation to the station.

Portable expressed confidence that a proper investigation will be conducted into the assault allegation leveled against him.

The statement reads; “Remain calm as everything is in control. We writing this for those reaching out to us Portable wasn’t arrested he went to the police station himself to honor the invitation of the police.

“Police is our friend we trust and believe the force will carry out their investigations and everything will be done appropriately We are positive that all will go well as he is with the commissioner of police (CP) and the issue is being (sic) attended to.”

It was reported on Friday that the Ogun State police command arrested Portable after refusing to honour summons.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest and said that the artiste had been invited for questioning five times.

The singer had earlier been given a 72-hour ultimatum to surrender himself or be arrested after a petition was filed against him.

Oyeyemi said Portable is currently cooling his feet at the state headquarters of the police in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

It was also gathered that the Portable will remain in police custody for 72 hours until Monday when he will be charged to court.

The state police command had earlier said minimum force will be used to apprehend the hyper artiste.

There was drama early in the week when the singer resisted arrest after some police officers stormed Odogwu Bar and Restaurant to whisk him away.

Portable challenged them to know the reason for them showing up and went on Instagram live to reveal that a Yahoo boy hired 20 police officers to intimidate him.

The security personnel were eventually forced to leave his office after their failed attempt to take him to the station.

Speaking on the incident, Oyeyemi, said; “We have also sent an invitation to him through his father twice for questioning after a report was lodged against him. The police approached a court to get an arrest warrant for him following his refusal to honour the invitation. On sighting the police, Portable stripped himself naked so as to create a scene. Portable is not bigger than the law. We are going to use minimum force to arrest him.”
