Police officers allegedly kidnap hotel staff, demand ransom in Rivers

Four police officers have been arrested by the Rivers state command for allegedly kidnapping a hotel staff in Port Harcourt.

The state commissioner of police, Olatunji Disu, disclosed this to the press while explaining the roles of the operatives involved in the heinous crime.

According to Daily Post, some men of the Rivers state police command, while on patrol at the weekend, intercepted one Darlington Bieh around Choba in the Obio/Akpor part of the state and whisked him to an unknown destination.

The security personnel were said to have searched the victim’s bags, pockets, and phone, but found nothing incriminating. They thereafter saw some photos indicating that Darlington Bieh works in a big hotel.

It was gathered that they asked him to call his family members to send millions of naira, threatening that they would kill him and throw his corpse into the Choba River if his people failed to comply.

Bieh, however, called the owner of the hotel where he works, and in turn the hotelier quickly alerted a Divisional Police Officer. The DPO called the rogue police officers and pretended to be the victim’s father, after which they were tracked.

Speaking after the arrest, the police commissioner said he read about the abduction on social media and swung into action to ensure that the victim was released.

Disu added; “They have been arrested. I am waiting for a complaint from the victim, so that I will know what and what to look out for. The officers are in custody.

“We are not hiding anything. When the complaint comes, we will give you details of what we have done. If I don’t get complaints from members of the public on this, I will believe everything is okay. All of us are in this together”.
