Police charge woman to court for allegedly causing neighbour’s miscarriage

A 34-year-old woman, Olabisi Oyebolu, has been arrested for allegedly beating up her neighbour and causing her to lose her pregnancy.

Lagos state police arraigned the defendant before Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi on Friday, January 19 for conspiracy and assault.

Olabisi, a businesswoman who resides at 33 Oluyeye St., Mafoluku, Oshodi area o Lagos State however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem informed the court that a fight had ensued between the defendant and the complainant, Mrs Bunmi Olunlade, over the cleaning of their compound.

Akeem said in the cause of the heated exchange on July 26, 2023, Olabisi and her siblings, who are still at large, beat up the complainant, causing her to lose her pregnancy.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate Osunsanmi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and then adjourned the case until February 22.

An Area Court in Jos, Plateau, has sentenced two farmers, Samaila Zanko and Umar Abubakar to three months imprisonment each for assault and extortion.

The prosecutor, Monday Dabit told the court that the matter was reported at the office of the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Jos, by the complainant, Malam Saudi Abdullahi on September 11 , 2023.

He said the convicts invaded the complainant’s house, beat him up, demanded N3 million from the complainant as a “settlement fee” and threatened to beat him up again if he refused to comply. Dabit said that the offence contravened the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code.

Justice Shawomi Bokkos convicted Zanko, 24 and Abubakar, 36 on Friday after they pleaded guilty to assault and attempted extortion. He sentenced them to three months separate jail time, but gave each of them an option to pay a fine of N10,000.
