Please don’t turn it to competition – Indian chef whose record Hilda Baci beat, appeals to Nigerians

Indian chef, Lata Tondon, the holder of the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking hours by an individual, has appealed to Nigerians not to stir up a rivalry between her and Nigerian chef Hilda Baci who beat her time.

In 2019, Tondon was confirmed the record holder after she completed the cooking marathon in 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 secs in Rewa, India.

But on Monday, 15th of May, 2023, Baci, a 27-year-old graduate beat the current record and cooked for up to 100 hours before she stopped.

However, The Guinness World Record team is yet to officially announce Hilda as the new world record holder and the reason is because it will review all the evidence first.

GWR said; “We are aware of this amazing record attempt, we need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming a record”.

Amid the impatient wait for confirmation, Nigerians began to raise concerns about a likely plot to sabotage their compatriot’s win and some persons issued threats if the Akwa Ibom indigene ends up ‘being cheated’.

In reaction, Tondon took to her social media page and urged people to maintain peace and wait for the official announcement. The Indian culinary expert said that it’s just a record and not a competition to be fought over.

She wrote; “A Humble Request to all my Sisters and Brothers in Nigeria■ & India ➡to maintain peace and wait for Guinness to officially announce if the Current Record is broken or not.

Please don’t make it a Competition it’s just a Record my friends. I am a Peace loving Person and wish same for you.”
