Popular Nigerian singer, Tiwa has reflected on her career journey and how she faced criticism during her early days in the entertainment industry.
The 44-year-old music superstar revealed that she was heavily criticised over her “sexy” fashion style, and her risky lyrics in songs.
Tiwa made this known in a recent interview with Kiss FM, UK, as she compared her situation to that of her younger colleague, Ayra Starr who is known for wearing really short skirts.
She disclosed that she is obsessed with Ayra because she is genuine an amazing. According to her, when she sees people criticise the Grammy nominated songstress for her skimpy dresses, she feels like telling her to make it shorter.
Tiwa praised the Mavin Records artiste for continuing to shine on the global music scene despite the criticisms hauled at her by Nigerians over her dressing sense.
The singer said; “I love Ayra [Starr]. I’m obsessed with her. She’s amazing and genuine, too. It makes me emotional because when I started, I got criticised a lot for dressing too sexy and my lyrics being too risky.
“So, seeing someone, Ayra now…If I see her wearing the short skirts as they [critics] say, I’m like, ‘Make it shorter.’ And she looks amazing, she’s extremely talented. Yeah, she’s a star.”
