No lives lost as fire guts Access Bank branch in Lagos

A fire incident at the Victoria Island branch of Access Bank on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 went up in flames.

No lives were lost in the accident which was reportedly caused by a fully loaded 33,000 litres diesel tanker inside the bank’s building at Adetokunbo Ademola.

The tanker was dispensing diesel for the use of the bank’s generators’ when a part of the building caught fire, according to the General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

“A combined intervention of the emergency responders, LASEMA Response Team, Eko Hotel, LASG fire, UBA Fire Service, and Federal Fire are able to arrest the fire and stop it from escalating to further the building in the premises,” he said.

The diesel tanker and another vehicle stationed close to it were completely destroyed in the fire.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the actual cause of the fire is unknown, adding that an investigation would reveal the extent of damage to the building.
