The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has issued the federal government a two-week ultimatum to reverse the recent increase in electricity tariff and the petrol pump price or face nationwide industrial action.

In a communiqué by its President, Ayuba Wabba, NLC said the ultimatum takes immediate effect, warning that at the end of its expiration on 28th September, it would mobilise members nationwide for civil unrest.

Recall that various civil society groups as well as the major opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have kicked against government’s decision to cease paying subsidies for electricity and Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol.

They made a case for the sake of the livelihood of Nigerians, stressing that the timing was not right given the global effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
