A Nigerian housewife, Zulai Umar, has made up her mind to leave her husband of 14 years owing to his bad habits.
She approached an Upper Area Court, Gwagwalada and asked for dissolution of marriage to Umar Abubakar, who is a chronic drinker.
The woman said their union was lacking love and there was no more interest in being together
Umar told the court that she since their marriage in 2009, they have been living together in Giri Gauta, Gwagwalada in FCT.
The mother of five said sometime in 2015, she noticed that her husband had started taking alcohol.
She said that after the incident she left her husband’s house for her parents for 10 months with her children.
”I had a talk with him to stop drinking but to no avail. On June 20, 2022, when I delivered my last child, he got drunk on the naming ceremony day and created a scene in the presence of all his in-laws and relatives. During that period my husband never visited to check the well-being of my children,” she said.
Umar prayed the court to dissolve the marriage on the grounds of lack of love and interest.
Abubakar did not respond well to the allegations from the wife because he was under the influence of alcohol.
The Judge, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkarim, cautioned the defendant who was talking carelessly in the court.
Abdulkarim adjourned the matter until June 23 in order to give the defendant time to regain himself because he was drunk.
