Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has said the Nigerian national team can win its fourth Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON trophy in 2024 despite being in a difficult group.
The tournament is starting January 14 in Ivory Coast starting January 14, and Peseiro’s men are drawn in Group A with hosts of the tournament, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
Peseiro admitted during an interview with NFF TV on Monday that the group is not easy, but noted that Nigeria has the talent to clinch the title.
“We will fight to win the Africa Cup even though it won’t be easy. Our group is not easy because we are up against the Ivory Coast, who have a good squad and are playing at home. We have to be at our best in our training and our matches,” he said.
The Portuguese manager, who monitored over 70 players also said it was tough selecting the final 25-man squad.
“It was not easy to choose,” Peseiro admitted.
The Nigerian team will kick-off their campaign on January 14 against Equatorial Guinea before facing the hosts four days later.
