International Afrobeats star, Davido has stated that being nominated for the just concluded 66th edition of the Grammys Awards is enough to make him proud of himself.
CorrectNG reports that he bagged three nominations at the Grammys which held in the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, but failed to win an award.
Davido, who is a first time Grammy nominee, revealed that despite losing out, his billionaire father, Mr Adedeji Adeleke gave him encouraging words.
Speaking about his journey to stardom during his latest interview with Rolling Stone, the ‘Unavailable’ crooner said his dad told him that he remains a legend.
He said; “Being nominated alone is enough to make me proud of myself. I just want my song to be heard on the radio once or twice in the beginning, but for it to transcend to this is just amazing and God’s doing.
“I was on the phone with my dad yesterday and he was like ‘Son no matter what happens, you are still a legend’. So yeah, he is a big fan”.
Recall that Davido’s ‘Unavailable’, Asake & Olamide’s ‘Amapiano’, Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’, and Burna Boy’s ‘City Boy’ lost the Best African Music performance category to Tyla’s ‘Water’.
‘Pashto’ by Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Zakir Hussain Featuring Rakesh Chaurasia beat Davido’s ‘Feel’ and Burna Boy’s ‘Alone’ to win the Best Global Music Performance.
In the same vein, Burna Boy’s latest project ‘I Told Them’ and Davido’s ‘Timeless’ album also lost the Best Global Album to Shakti’s ‘The Moment’.
