Mercy Chinwo slams lawsuit on singer Obidiz for mentioning her name in secular song

Popular gospel artiste, Mercy Chinwo has filed a lawsuit against Afrobeats singer, Obidiz Lawson over unauthorized use of her name.

She dragged Obidiz to court for mentioning her name in one of his songs and demanded N2billion compensation.

In the suit filed on March 23 and served to the secular musician by Chinwo’s lawyers, Obidiz was accused of using her name as well as her photo in a derogatory way.

He also also warned to cease and desist any further usage of the gospel star’s name or image on any of his promotional content and music.

Obidiz, was therefore asked to take down all photos, promotional content and music he posted from all streaming services bearing Mercy Chinwo’s name and pictures.

Failure to comply with their requests, would result in him being dragged to court and the legal system ordering him pay 2 billion naira in damages.

The suit read in part:

“DEROGATORY AND DEFAMATORY USE OF THE NAME AND IMAGE OF MINISTER MERCY CHINWO IN A SECULAR MUSIC AUDIO AND VIDEO: NOTICE TO CEASE AND DESIST.

“The above subject matter duly refers.

“1.0 INTRODUCTION

“1.1 We are Solicitors and Attorneys-at-Law to Minister Mercy Chinwo (hereinafter referred to as “Our Client”) on whose instructions we write with respect to the above subject matter.

“1.2 Our Client is a renowned Gospel Artist who through her ministration has built a respectable brand and spiritual reputation for herself as she is renowned for the promotion of the Gospel of Christ and spreading positivity around the world through her music.”
