Mayorkun skips Davido as he reveals who inspires him

Popular Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Mayorkun, has stirred reactions online after mentioning someone other than his ex-boss, Davido, as the musician that inspires him.

The former DMW signee revealed that multi-award winning singer and rapper, Olamide is the artiste and songwriter that he derives inspiration from.

Mayorkun shared a video of himself freestyling via Snapchat and in the process gave kudos to Olamide for inspiring how he writes his music.

While acknowledging the YBNL boss’s influence in his penmanship, the Certified Loner crooner said Baddo made him understand that good songwriting doesn’t necessarily have to be in English language.

He captioned the video; “Na Baddo [Olamide] make me know say pen game no be by English o! IYKVK.”

Davido signed him to DMW Records in 2016 where he released his debut single, ‘Eleko’. But in 2021, Mayorkun parted ways with the music label.

Budding Afrobeats singer, Daniel Benson, also known as BNXN, has revealed that Grammy winner, Burna Boy influenced his decision to return resume music-making.

The ‘Finesse’ crooner said he quit singing when he gained admission into the university and only resumed after listening to songs by Burna Boy and UK rapper, J Hus.

He said; “When I got into the university, I dropped everything that had to do with music. What inspired me to go back to doing music was that I started listening to Burna Boy and J Hus. I started listening to real music. And I was like, I think I can do this.”
