Manchester City fix deadline for Guardiola to renew contract

Manchester City will be expecting a response from its manager, Pep Guardiola, on his decision regarding his future at the club by Christmas.

ESPN reports that the English Premier League champions hope the 53-year-old will agree on fresh terms at the Etihad, after guiding the club to an unprecedented era of success with 15 major trophies.

Guardiola, who arrived in 2016, has only one year left on his current deal with City. The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss is leaning towards leaving City after the newly expanded FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.

Head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Finidi George recently opened up on the only regret he has from his days as a footballer.

The 53-year-old tactician said what he regrets till this days not signing for Real Madrid after his exit from Ajax.

After Finidi left Ajax, he signed for Real’s LaLiga rivals, Real Betis. However, before he joined Betis he close to signing with Real Madrid, but the transfer ultimately did not materialize.

Speaking in an interview on Brila FM, the former Nigerian international said the current Real Madrid is different from the one he knew about 25 years ago when he was still playing.

According to him, the La Liga giants were struggling with finances at the time and could not reach an agreement with Ajax for him.

He said; “My only regret is not signing for Real Madrid. The Real Madrid you know now is different from 25 years ago. They were struggling with money and couldn’t reach an agreement with Ajax.

I had already agreed on personal terms with Madrid and spoken with Coach Capello. I had a pre-contract, but Real Madrid and Ajax couldn’t agree on the transfer fee.”
