A Nigerian man has opened up about discovering that there is a police station in his hometown which works with internet fraudsters known as Yahoo Boys.

He said the last time he went to his village, his mother informed him that the police station in the community that has an officer dedicated to giving licence to yahoo boys to carry out their scam.

The guy known on Twitter as Tosin Olugbenga said all fraudsters in the town are expected to duly register with the police officer and bring a percentage of the proceeds from their fraudulent activities.

He shared the story in a bid to expose the level of rot in the Nigeria Police, and investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo comfirmed the existence of such department in multiple police stations across the country.

Olugbenga wrote; “The Nigerian police is a mess. It will take a loooooooong time to fix the mess. When last I went to hometown, my mummy told me the police station in the town has an officer dedicated to Yahoo boys.

They call him Yahoo police, and he’s in charge of all the Yahoo boys in the town. If you are doing Yahoo, you must register with him, pay a percentage of every fraud money you collected.

If you operate without license, they will frustrate your fraud business. That’s how deeply corrupt the police can be.”

Fisayo confirmed the story, writing; “This is 100% true. It happens in numerous police stations, and not just in Lagos. It happens in multiple states.”
