Man cries out for justice after being extorted by policemen that demanded $20k in bitcoin (Video)

A Nigerian man has cried out online about his ordeal at the hands of police officers that extorted him on June 6, 2023, in Ikate.

He said that he was driving to a site where he works around 9am and was stopped by a team of policemen who extorted him of $20,000 in Bitcoin.

The young man said they asked him to alight, which he did only for them to hop into his car and bundle him into their van where he was introduced to their superior officer.

Sharing his experience in a video trending online, he said they handcuffed him and began to rough-handle him when he wanted to defend himself.

They forced him to put his password in his phone and checked his account, which was when they saw receipts of bank transactions.

The man said that they drove him to different stations and an EFCC office, and were threatening to him, so he was scared for his life.

He said that at some point, they told him that for them to let him go, he would have to give them $20,000 in bitcoin, but he did not know how to do that.

The guy said that they checked his bank app and saw his balance of more than N2m. He said they asked him to transfer the money to someone that would trade his naira and give him the BTC equivalent.

After he was made to call people and did the transaction under coercion, they drove him round Lagos until the BTC dropped in their account, then he was dropped around Obalende.

seunfaj15; Oga why will you release your password for Nigeria police, you won’t be the first to be harassed by Nigeria police but please never release your phone password for anybody.

mato_w_ski; I don’t understand why people are scared of going to the police station if they have not committed any offence why would you give your password or transfer money to policemen? I don’t understand take me to station of kill me

excel360_; We don’t even know how many police operations we have in nigeria. Some with just Shirt and trousers will stop you asking for shit. Please Nigerian police check out on alagbado police station they’re fun of doing this. Passing through then is like going through a dungeon.

brawny_gold; Mistake he did was leaving his car key inside that car while they searched it, he should have put off the car and step aside doing video first thing while they search, it will prompt them to behave since they don’t know if you’re on live video or just normal recording, then if they tried dragging you without evidence make sure you create awareness shouting on the video you’re recording. It happened once but still these bad eggs sometimes you can’t win them but first try to do video and second make sure you take your car key along while you step out then three create awareness if they’re not well behave stand on your right and argue #peace.
