A scavenger identified as Sulieman Abubakar, has been sentenced to 21 months imprisonment for stealing an Mp3 speaker worth N5,000.
A Dei-dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja convicted 28-year-old Abubakar on Thursday, March 30th 2023.
The FCT Police Command arraigned him before Area Court Judge, Malam Saminu Suleiman on the three count charge of criminal trespass, housebreaking and theft.
Abubakar pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency. The presiding judge, however, gave the convict an option of a N30,000 fine.
The prosecutor, Olanipekun Babajide, earlier told the court that on February 5, 2023, the complainant, Abdulraman Myheiminu who lives in Dawaki, reported the matter at the Zuba police station.
According to him, the convict trespassed into Myheiminu’s private residence and broke his window worth 80,000 Naira.
Babajide said that during the police investigation, the convict made a confessional statement admitting to the crime.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 348, 346 and 288 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, a Zambian court recently sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment for sleeping with a mentally challenged woman four years ago.
Edwin Sakala, was arrested in March 2019 after residents exposed him for having carnal knowledge of a mentally ill woman in Masala.
Eyewitnesses had revealed that the man, who was 29 years at the time used to drag the woman into his apartment every night to have sex with her and then bring her out early in the morning.
A source told Zambian eagle; “The man has been dragging her into his apartment late nights and bring her out early mornings.”
Sakala met his Waterloo after neighbours who had been suspecting him paid more attention to his movements, and then caught him in the act.
Masala police arraigned him in court and after 4 years of the case lingering, a judge found him guilty and convicted Sakala. But the convict was given an option of marrying the mentally challenged woman.
