Man arrested for allegedly killing girlfriend who planned to dump him

Men of the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested a man for allegedly hacking his girlfriend to death with a machete.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammad Jalige, in a statement on Friday, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

The spokesperson said that on April 14 at about 9:30pm, the command received a distress call was about a mob action happening near NEPA Roundabout in the Kaduna metropolis.

Jalige said a crowd was about to lynch a man accused of killing his girlfriend for allegedly planning to breakup with him.

According to the PPRO, operatives were mobilised and deployed to the scene where they met the suspect lying unconscious and surrounded by multiple people.

He was said to have attacked the deceased at Old Command Secondary and Nursery School on Sokoto Road, inflicting injuries on her face, arms and hands, resulting in the hand being severed.

The police spokesman said the suspect claimed to have spent a lot of resources on her and she wanted to dump him for another man.

“The victim was rushed to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, for treatment. A doctor on duty confirmed she was dead.

“The corpse of the lady has been deposited at the same hospital, for an autopsy,” Jalige added.
