LASTMA to start prosecuting skit-makers over ‘abuse of uniform’

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced that it will take legal action against any skit-maker or filmmaker found wearing the agency’s uniform.

LASTMA Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq informed the public of the agency’s decision in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.

He said any unauthorised use of the uniform or its associated colors, kits and accessories without government permission will be dealt with in line with legal provisions.

Taofiq quoted the General Manager, Bakare Oki, as saying that the decision was made after witnessing a social media video of two actors wearing phony LASTMA uniforms being revived by evil means after impaling a white Sienna car on the road.

The agency’s director warned that filmmakers or skit-makers who parade themselves as LASTMA officers in contents, without obtaining the necessary permission should stop immediately or risk facing the full force of the law.

The statement reads in part; “The Management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has concluded all necessary arrangements to prosecute any skits or filmmakers caught using the Agency’s uniform or its affiliated colour, kits and accouterments without any authorisation from the Government.

“Mr. Bakare-Oki made this known today after seeing two (2) actors with fake LASTMA uniforms in a viral video on social media where one of them was being revived through a diabolical means after impounding a white ‘Sienna’ space bus on the road.

“We implore the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners and other affiliated bodies to warn their members as anyone caught using LASTMA Uniform without an approved permit would be prosecuted in accordance with ‘Section 79 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
