LASTMA sacks 11 officials for extorting Lagos residents

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed 11 officials for extortion and bribery in the state.

Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq announced the development after a meeting of the top management.

He said a disciplinary panel had convened on Thursday, November 30, 2023 to investigate allegations leveled against 12 LASTMA officers.

Taofiq revealed that while one of the officials was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing, the remaining 11 were found guilty.

“While 11 officers were found guilty of the corruption charges against them, only one officer was exonerated,” Taofiq explained.

The LASTMA boss also said the Acting General Manager issued a stern warning to all LASTMA personnel that harsher penalties would be imposed on corrupt officers.

According to Taofiq, this aims to cleanse the traffic management agency of the “few bad elements tarnishing its image.”

He added; “We hereby call on residents especially motoring public to support the Agency in the on-going restructuring by promptly reporting any errant officers via any of the Agency’s complaints hotlines (08100565860, 08129928503, 08129928515 & 08129928597) with proof of evidence”.
