Lady set to travel to UK by weekend reportedly among casualties of Ibadan explosion

A lady simply known as Ms Dale has claimed that one of the victims of the unfortunate explosion in Ibadan, Oyo state was her neighbour’s friend.

She said the woman was meant to travel to the United Kingdom this Saturday, however she died in the incident which occurred on January 16.

According to Ms Dale, who seemed shattered by the sad development, the deceased lady was supposed to celebrate her birthday yesterday, January 17.

She wrote; “My neighbor’s friend died in that explosion. Her birthday would have been today and she was supposed to leave for the UK on Saturday… but she’s dead now.

My neighbor called to wish her a happy birthday, only to be told her body is being picked up from UCH.”

It was earlier reported that no fever than 20 houses were destroyed as a result of the explosion that occurred at Bodija Housing Estate in Ibadan on Tuesday.

An eyewitness, Mr Bode, who visited the area few minutes after the incident, narrated that more than 20 houses were badly affected.

“I have counted at least 20 houses that were affected by the explosion,” he said.

Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde had also revealed the real owners of the explosives responsible or the Tuesday night massive explosion

He said the names on the records at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) showed some foreign nationals as owners of the mining firm responsible for the explosives.

“We are trying to uncover the identities of the people. We’ve done a few fact-finding on the company involved and yes, there are indeed some foreign names on the CAC documents of the company involved but these are still early days. We don’t have anything to cover,” Makindesaid.
